Wernigerode (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) thanked the emergency services for fighting the forest fires this year. The positive side of a major challenge is that it also shows the level of operational readiness, said Haseloff on Wednesday in Wernigerode (Harz). "We can absolutely rely on the fire brigades and the other emergency services."
According to the State Chancellery, "one of the most devastating fires in recent decades in the Harz National Park" broke out on September 3rd. He had to be fought for several days - from the air and from the ground. The fire was only considered extinguished a week later.
