Saxony-Anhalt: Unknown destroy issued nativity scene

Wernigerode (dpa/sa) - A nativity scene presented as part of an exhibition was willfully destroyed by pyrotechnics on the grounds of a church in Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains. The "unknown pyrotechnic product" had been thrown over the fence by strangers on Saturday night, the police said on Sunday. The exhibition object, made of wood and plaster, was damaged, and according to initial estimates, the damage to property should be around 5,000 euros. Debris also damaged the facade of the church and a window, it said. The police are looking for witnesses to the crime.
