Saxony: Customs secure 750,000 cigarettes

Dresden (dpa/sn) - Customs officers seized 750,000 duty-unpaid cigarettes in a van on Autobahn 4 just behind the German-Polish border. This prevented tax damage of around 170,000 euros, the main customs office in Dresden announced on Thursday. The van with a Polish license plate and a driver from Ukraine was pulled out of circulation during an inspection on Wednesday last week.

The entire load consisted of cigarettes of different brands. The district court of Görlitz issued an arrest warrant against the 68-year-old driver.
