Saxony: Dry pond is filled with excavation water

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - A dried-up historic pond in Leipzig is being refilled with water from a construction pit. The "Vordere Rosentalteich" was created in the middle of the 19th century, the city announced on Friday. He hadn't had any water since June. Even in the drought years of 2018 and 2019 it was completely dry. Normally, the 4600 square meter body of water is fed by precipitation and water from layers close to the surface. Very little rain has fallen in Leipzig in the past few months.

Now the water from a construction site in the zoo is being used to turn the facility back into a pond. This water could be discolored reddish-brown due to iron deposits. But that is harmless.
