Weimar (dpa/th) - Starting next week, Deutsche Bahn AG will be renewing the tracks between Weimar and Erfurt-Vieselbach. The railway announced on Friday that ballast, rails and sleepers would be renewed on a stretch of eight kilometers. The work is scheduled to last from July 15 to September 2, 2022. One track will be closed for the construction work, and both on some days - with a corresponding impact on train traffic.

In long-distance traffic, there will be diversions and cancellations between Erfurt and Leipzig/Weimar/Gera. The IC trains on the Cologne - Hamm - Kassel - Erfurt - Gera line are no longer used, and the additional trains on the Cologne - Leipzig line are also no longer used on Fridays and Sundays. The additional trains on the Karlsruhe/Frankfurt - Leipzig line are diverted on Fridays and Sundays on the Erfurt - Leipzig section via Sangerhausen, but do not stop there.

On the regional connections RE1/RE3, the journey times between Erfurt and Weimar/Jena-Göschwitz will be changed, and there will be no through journeys to Göttingen. In the nights from July 15th to 16th, from September 1st to September 2nd and also from August 1st to 15th, there will be replacement bus services between Erfurt and Weimar.

Changed travel times also apply to the regional connections RE16/RE17 between Erfurt and Weimar, with additional stops in Vieselbach and Hopfgarten.

The regional trains RB20 and EB21 are canceled from July 15 to September 1 and from July 16 to September 2 between Erfurt and Weimar.
