Thuringia: Fewer convictions in Thuringian courts

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The number of criminals convicted by Thuringian courts continues to decrease. Last year, 22,077 people had to answer to a judge for one or more crimes or misdemeanors, as the State Statistical Office announced on Friday in Erfurt. 17,144 defendants were sentenced to imprisonment, a fine, criminal arrest or youth imprisonment. Compared to 2020, there were 4.2 percent fewer people who were convicted. The downward trend that has been going on for years has thus continued.

According to the information, the conviction rate was 77.7 percent, slightly below that of the previous year (2020: 79.0 percent). At 23.1 percent, most convictions were for crimes against property and property, such as fraud and fraud, followed by road traffic offenses (21.8 percent). Last year, 2,333 people were found guilty of drug-related offenses. That is an increase of 7.9 percent.

Of those convicted last year, 2,858 were foreigners. That corresponds to a share of 16.7 percent and is the highest number of convictions of people without German citizenship to date. Ten years ago, the proportion was still 5.5 percent. However, it should also be noted that the number of foreigners also changed during this period.
