Saxony: Flood protection walls on the Würschnitz completed

Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - New protective walls have been completed for flood protection on the Würschnitz in Chemnitz-Harthau. For around 2.4 million euros, around 300 meters of flood protection walls have been newly built since August 2020 and the body of water has been partially widened, the state dam administration announced on Thursday. Two driveways were also built.

According to the dam administration, Chemnitz-Harthau should be protected against floods, which statistically can occur once in 25 years. For this purpose, flood protection walls are being built in several construction phases and old seawalls are being dismantled. The work should be completed by the end of 2023.

Since the flood of the century in 2002, many billions of euros have been invested in flood protection in Saxony. At the beginning of 2022, over 170 projects were in the making.
