Saxony: Matthias Heidrich becomes sports director at Aue

Aue (dpa / sn) - The former football professional Matthias Heidrich returns as a sports director to the third division FC Erzgebirge Aue. The 44-year-old will start the job immediately, the club announced on Wednesday. Heidrich played for the violets from 2000 to 2005 and was part of the team that achieved promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2003. Most recently, he worked at 1. FC Köln as head of the youth academy. The Saxons are still looking for a new head coach after the separation from Timo Rost. The team is being trained interimly under the direction of Carsten Müller, head of the youth academy.

After turbulent days, calm should return in Aue. After nine match days, the FCE is in last place and has not yet won a league game. Long-serving president Helge Leonhardt announced his resignation on September 18 and thus assumed responsibility for the sporting downturn. Two days later, Rost was relieved of his duties after less than three months. Entrepreneur Torsten Enders will lead the club as interim president until the general meeting on November 12th.
