Leipzig (dpa/sn) - After the World Cup quarter-finals match between Morocco and Portugal (1-0), around 300 fans of the African team marched in Leipzig on Saturday evening and repeatedly ignited pyrotechnics and smoke pots. As the Leipzig police headquarters announced on Sunday, six officers suffered a blast trauma. However, they continued to be able to serve. "Several investigations were initiated, including due to dangerous bodily harm and attempted damage to property," it said.

The police had to intervene in the center of Leipzig on Saturday afternoon when suspected Islam opponents and counter-demonstrators gathered on Kleiner Willy-Brandt-Platz. Police vehicles were also damaged in three places in the trade fair city on the night of Saturday and Sunday.
