Attention ice cream fans! After an initial recall in July 2022, many other types of ice cream from the well-known "Häagen-Dazs" brand are now affected by a major recall. The manufacturer has announced a full list of affected products. Customers who have already bought one of the affected types of ice cream can have the purchase price refunded.

First, the US manufacturer General Mills products had recalled a few products from the ice cream brand Häagen-Dazs. The varieties affected at that time were:

But now the recall is being expanded to include a whole range of other ice cream flavors! The reason: Manufacturer General Mills, in cooperation with Genuport Trade GmbH, is recalling numerous ice cream products from "Häagen-Dazs" because these products contain residues of 2-chloroethanol, which is a breakdown product of ethylene oxide.

According to the online portal: "ProductWarning.eu", the types of ice cream affected are:

But what is it about the substance that is now the reason for the extended recall? According to the "NRW Consumer Center", ethylene oxide is a pesticide and fumigant that is actually used to combat bacteria and fungi. It is now banned in food production in Europe because it can change the genetic material and cause cancer.

Buyers can bring the affected ice cream varieties back to the market. The sales price should also be reimbursed there. Other varieties from the manufacturer are not affected, customers do not have to worry.
