Cult box in the 1950s look: Citroën Berlingo 2CV Fourgonnette comes in retro style

The Citroën Berlingo actually looks like high-roof station wagons look today. However, add-on parts made of fiberglass now make it a likeable cult box if desired. With the retro trim, it resembles the Citroën 2 CV Fourgonnette van from 1951. It can be ordered from October.

In 2017, the Italian coachbuilder Caselani Automobili revived the legendary Citroën Type H corrugated iron van with the help of a conversion kit for the Citroën Jumper. The Italians, in cooperation with the designer David Obendorfer, have now also tailored such a retro panel for the current Citroën Berlingo, which in its new dress resembles the Citroën 2 CV Fourgonnette small transporter from 1951. (Fourgonnette is French for delivery van.) The vehicle can be ordered as a special model of the Berlingo from the beginning of October.

The conversion kit can be combined with all body variants and drives of the Berlingo. This also applies to the purely electrically powered version of the van. The 1950s look is primarily due to body panels made of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic parts applied to the sheet metal skin, which ensure the historic corrugated sheet metal look on the flanks, at the rear and on the bonnet.

In addition, the headlights, which are square on the Berlingo, are replaced by round lights. Chrome trim, classic-style wheels and a grille complete the retro styling.

Officially, orders for the Citroën Berlingo 2CV Fourgonnette will be accepted from October 1st, and deliveries will start at the beginning of 2023. Interested parties can contact Caselani directly for the conversion or order it from a Citroën dealer.

The dealer will then present the customer with a second invoice for the conversion in addition to an invoice for the new Berlingo. In the simplest version, this should probably cost around 10,000 euros, and at least 26,300 euros will also be due for a new Berlingo. Accordingly, the special model 2CV Fourgonnette will start at just under 40,000 euros.
