Federal Statistical Office: Beer sales increased in the first half of the year

Sales of beer in Germany rose in the first half of 2022 after the corona restrictions were lifted. In total, the breweries and beer warehouses based in Germany sold around 4.3 billion liters of beer in the six months. That was 3.8 percent more than in the first half of the previous year, as the Federal Statistical Office announced on Monday.

Domestically, 3.6 billion liters were sold, 6.4 percent more than in the same period last year. Exports to the EU (plus 6.6 percent) increased. On the other hand, exports to countries outside the Community (minus 19.1 percent) fell.

Despite the increase, beer sales in the first half of the year were 5.5 percent below the level of the same period before the 2019 corona pandemic. The Wiesbaden authorities pointed out that sales of the beer have been falling continuously for a long time.
