According to the association for executive employment (Apec), some 280,000 executives should be recruited in 2019, breaking a new record. The 300,000 threshold could even be reached in 2021, according to the 2019-2021 executive recruitment forecasts published on Friday.

At the beginning of 2019, the companies surveyed by Apec planned to recruit between 270,000 and 292,000 executives, a figure confirmed in July with regard to the various macroeconomic indicators of economic institutes (Insee, IMF, OECD, Banque de France, Eurostat), with 280,600 recruitments expected in 2019.

Six out of ten companies plan to recruit at least one executive during the third quarter of 2019, according to the Association's latest economic report.

These good figures are driven by "the good performance of investment coupled with a recovery in household consumption spending" and by the increased need for executives to deal with transformations, particularly digital ones.

Faced with these important needs, companies are struggling to find the right skills, notes Apec. The latest quarterly barometer reports a significant drop in applications per job offer: 31 applications for an offer in 2018 compared to 46 applications for an offer in 2014.
