Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: FDP: Check the four-day model at schools in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Despite the criticism from educational associations of a four-day week at test schools in Saxony-Anhalt, the FDP is calling for the model for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to be checked. The model with four days of lessons at school and one day for distance learning, company visits or internships is based on scientific findings on changing learning and teaching conditions, explained the education policy spokeswoman for the FDP parliamentary group, Sabine Enseleit, on Monday. "Learning doesn't necessarily have to happen in the classroom," she said.

The four-plus-one model is to be tested in a dozen schools in Saxony-Anhalt for one school year starting next school year. Educational organizations have heavily criticized the project. The chairman of the German Teachers' Association, Heinz-Peter Meidinger, expressed the suspicion that this was a savings model and that the lesson cancellation statistics should be "massively" embellished. A permanent drop in level is to be feared. The FDP politician Enseleit emphasized that it was and will remain important to train and hire more teachers.
