As early as Wednesday morning, the temperatures in almost all regions reached more than 30 degrees, as reported by the German Weather Service (DWD). "Several heat records will tumble on Wednesday," said meteorologist Peter Zedler. New daily and monthly records were expected at some of the 27 measuring stations in Bavaria, and the absolute temperature record could also fall. According to Zedler, the highest temperatures were expected in the Saale valley and in the Thuringian basin.
It was the hottest in the morning with 36.2 degrees in Jena. "It is quite possible that Jena will approach the 40 degree mark." It was a little more bearable in the Thuringian Forest. 29 degrees were measured on the Schmücke in the morning, but 32 degrees were also expected there in the afternoon. Even in Neuhaus am Rennweg, which is 845 meters above sea level, the thermometer showed 30.1 degrees in the morning hours.
According to the DWD, no 39 degrees have been measured in Thuringia since records began. The maximum was reached in Artern (Kyffhäuserkreis) in 2015 with 38.9 degrees. According to the DWD, on Tuesday it was also the hottest in Jena at 38.0 degrees. The daily highs for July 19 were exceeded at all stations on Tuesday - sometimes even by up to four degrees, said Zedler.
