Baden-Württemberg: Completely overtired driver drives against a concrete wall and sleeps

Bühl (dpa / lsw) - A completely exhausted driver crashed into a concrete wall on his 150-kilometer wrong way on the Autobahn 5. Officials found the man unharmed and asleep on the hard shoulder near Bühl (Rastatt district), the police said on Friday.

The 66-year-old missed his exit on Thursday evening on his way back from work, kept falling asleep and wobbled across all three lanes. At Renchen (Ortenaukreis), coming from the right lane, he almost brushed a car that was just able to brake before he drove over the concrete wall in the middle of the freeway. The 66-year-old then swerved to the right, almost provoked another accident with another vehicle and finally came to a stop on the hard shoulder.

The man kept falling asleep during the interrogation. The damage to the man's car is estimated at around 15,000 euros. The officers are investigating a road hazard.
