Baden-Württemberg: Several accidents when fleeing: the policeman shoots at the car

Biberach/Ulm (dpa/lsw) - In order to stop an escape with several accidents, a police officer shot a car with his service weapon. "It is still being determined whether he hit the vehicle. In any case, the man was able to continue driving for the time being," said a police spokesman on Monday. When driving from Biberach to Ulm on Sunday evening, two drivers and a rescue service employee were slightly injured.

According to the police, the 26-year-old was probably in an exceptional psychological situation and was treated at home by emergency services employees. He should be taken to a hospital. The man refused, got into his car and dragged an ambulance worker a few meters when he started.

Police officers chased the car and blocked traffic at a bridge, forcing the driver to stop. When police officers approached his car on foot, the 26-year-old drove past the stationary cars and damaged a vehicle. An officer had to jump to the side, even the shot didn't stop the man from escaping.

As he drove on, he pushed a car onto the curb, the driver was slightly injured. A little later he drove into another car, which skidded and rolled over. The 31-year-old driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Vehicle parts flying around also damaged a truck and a police vehicle. The investigators estimate the damage at around 60,000 euros. When he was unable to continue driving in his badly damaged car, the man tried to flee on foot. The officers arrested him.
