Munich (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian State Orchestra is planning a European tour to mark its 500th anniversary. As the Munich orchestra announced on Sunday, there will be guest performances in the music metropolises of the continent from September 7th to 23rd, 2023. Concerts are planned in Hamburg, Berlin, Bucharest, London, Paris and Vienna. The prelude to Richard Wagner's opera "Tristan und Isolde", which the orchestra premiered in Munich in 1865, is also to be performed.

The orchestra was founded in 1523 at the Bavarian court and has held the title of Bavarian State Orchestra since 1918. In its history, the orchestra premiered a number of operas that are now among the best-known and most-performed works on the stage of the National Theater in Munich. Among them are several Wagner operas and also Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Idomeneo".

The State Orchestra is one of the best-known orchestras in Germany, it is the resident orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera. In the past, prominent names such as Richard Strauss, Georg Solti, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Zubin Mehta, Kent Nagano and Kirill Petrenko have conducted the orchestra. Vladimir Jurowski has been Bavarian General Music Director since 2021. The 144 musicians come from more than 20 nations.
