Egypt: Red Sea beaches close after deadly shark attack

After two shark attacks claimed the lives of two Egyptian tourists, Egyptian authorities closed down several beaches along Egypt's Red Sea coast.

The regional governor stated that one of them was a 68 year-old Austrian man who broke his arm while swimming near Hurghada, Friday.

Although shark attacks are not common in the Red Sea region, there have been a few incidents involving tourists in recent times.

About 65% of the country's tourists come from this region.

Environment ministry stated that they were working to determine the circumstances of the attacks.

A video that circulated online shows a woman struggling to get out of a pool of blood around her. The BBC can't verify it.

A shark attacked a tourist from Germany while he was swimming in 2018. In 2018, a Czech tourist was also killed.

In 2010, a freak five-day-long wave of attacks near Sharm el-Sheikh tourist hotspot killed a 70-year-old German lady and left four others injured.
