Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: millions for the largest park in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania

Ludwigslust (dpa / mv) - The largest park in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is getting a makeover. Around 2.8 kilometers of historic watercourses and 2.6 kilometers of paths are to be renovated or newly created in the Ludwigslust Palace Park by 2024, as Robert Klaus from the Schwerin State Building and Real Estate Office explained in the park on Tuesday. 3.5 million euros would be invested in this. They came from the EU program Eler for rural areas.

The bank reinforcements on the historic canals and watercourses are to be renewed. Since the beginning of the week, oak trunks have been cut into boards with a mobile saw frame in the park. The trees had fallen during storms in previous years. Five years ago, storm "Xavier" knocked down more than 900 trees in the Ludwigsluster Schlosspark.

The Schlosspark Ludwigslust is an important garden monument. The oldest parts are from the Baroque period. The so-called hunting star in the depths of the park is the largest facility of its kind that can still be experienced in Germany: 14 avenues start from a central square. In the 19th century, parts of the castle park were redesigned in the English style.
