Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Additional income from district administrators: the federal government demands transparency

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The Association of Taxpayers Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania calls for more transparency in additional income from district administrators and mayors. "Disclosure of remuneration, as is already the case in Schleswig-Holstein, would be a start," said Diana Behr, deputy state chairwoman of the taxpayers' association, on Monday in Schwerin.

After the most recent salary increase, district administrators in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania received almost 10,500 euros a month from tax money for their responsible work. "The taxpayers should therefore find out what elected representatives also receive, for example for their work in supervisory bodies," Behr justified the demand.

She was reacting to a report by NDR 1 Radio MV, according to which district administrators in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - unlike their colleagues in the neighboring country - do not disclose how much they get for sideline activities. These include seats on municipal supervisory boards or on the administrative bodies of the savings banks.

As the district association, as the umbrella organization of the six districts, explained to the NDR, there is no legal obligation for district administrators to disclose additional income, unlike for example members of the Bundestag. In general, one is open to more transparency, but it must then also apply to other officials and elected officials, the NDR quoted a spokesman for the district assembly as saying.
