Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Registration office for Ukraine refugees closed

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has closed its central registration office for refugees from Ukraine in Schwerin, which was set up at the beginning of April. As Interior Minister Christian level (SPD) announced on Sunday, the biometric data of around 8,000 Ukrainian war expellees have been recorded there over the past four months. "Even if the Russian war of aggression against the Ukraine continues with undiminished severity, fewer and fewer people are fleeing from there to Germany and to us in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Only a few new refugees are arriving in our country," level explained the closure.

According to him, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has taken in around 22,000 war refugees from Ukraine since the start of the Russian war of aggression on February 24. The majority had entered the country by mid-May, and most of those seeking protection were now registered. However, since the development in Ukraine can hardly be estimated, the rooms in Schwerin-Görries specially prepared for registration and also the 200 beds in the attached emergency accommodation will be kept available until further notice, it said.
