Penkun (dpa/mv) - On Wednesday, a wolf was hit by a car and killed on Autobahn 11 near Penkun (West Pomerania-Greifswald). As a police spokesman said, the driver was able to brake shortly after midnight, but could no longer avoid it when the predator jumped onto the road.

The car of the 22-year-old man, who was driving in the direction of Berlin, was thrown into a crash barrier and had to be recovered, badly damaged. The damage was estimated at 15,000 euros. The driver was not injured.

The wolf management of the State Office for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Geology took over the dead animal and wants to have the carcass examined more closely, as it was said.
