Duisburg (dpa / lnw) - Rot-Weiss Essen made up for a two-goal deficit in a thrilling Ruhr area derby at MSV Duisburg and got the first point of this third division season. In the first football league game between the two traditional clubs in 15 years, the western rivals drew 2-2 (2-0) in Duisburg on Friday evening.
In front of 28,200 spectators in the sold-out stadium, Marvin Bakalorz put the hosts ahead in the 6th minute. In a varied game, Moritz Stoppelkamp scored the second MSV goal after the break (52nd). Substitute Simon Engelmann (67th) and Lawrence Ennali (71st) caught up the deficit for Essen.
The newly promoted team lost 5-1 to SV 07 Elversberg. Duisburg had to admit defeat to VfL Osnabrück 0:1.
