North Rhine-Westphalia: A2: New junction "Lünen-Süd" released

Lünen (dpa / lnw) - The Autobahn 2 in North Rhine-Westphalia has a new junction. On Thursday afternoon, the first cars drove via "Lünen-Süd" in the direction of Oberhausen, as the Autobahn GmbH announced. Above all, residents in southern Lünen and in north-eastern Dortmund will benefit from this. Traffic experts expect around 3,000 vehicles to enter or leave the area every day.

Since 1994 there has been an entrance and exit called "Dortmund-Lanstrop" - but this only gave you access to the eastbound lane in the direction of Hanover, or you could exit from this lane. Anyone who wanted to travel west from the area in the direction of Oberhausen had to take detours. The "Lünen Süd" junction now allows driving up and down in both directions.

"This is a real improvement for drivers, also because the subordinate network is relieved," said project manager Fabian Patt, according to Autobahn GmbH. Work started in May 2021. According to Autobahn GmbH, construction will cost 7.3 million euros.
