North Rhine-Westphalia: girlfriend strangled: nine and a half years in prison

A man from Essen kills his girlfriend. The background is unclear. Now he has been convicted.

Essen (dpa / lnw) - After the killing of his girlfriend, a man from Essen was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison on Friday. The 25-year-old strangled his partner of the same age in her Essen apartment last October. The motive is mysterious. In the trial at the Essen district court, the accused admitted to being responsible for the killing, but remained silent about the background. After the fact, he turned himself in. The verdict is manslaughter.

The police discovered the 25-year-old's body on October 10, 2021. The evening before, the Serbian accused was said to have been to the cinema with his girlfriend. Then there must have been a fight. Why is unclear. "He left us in the dark on purpose," said the prosecutor in her plea.

Due to a drug problem, the judges ordered the accused to spend part of his sentence in a closed therapy facility. He also has to pay 10,000 euros in damages to the victim's mother.
