North Rhine-Westphalia: homeless shelter: man stabs other residents

Olpe (dpa / lnw) - A 49-year-old resident of a municipal shelter for the homeless in Olpe attacked a 44-year-old with a knife. The man who was also housed there was critically injured in the attack on Saturday evening by several stabs, police and prosecutors said on Monday. He is now out of danger, said a police spokesman.

Another 33-year-old resident intervened. He was also injured by a stab wound by the 49-year-old, but was able to lock the attacker out of the room. According to the police, it is accommodation that the city makes available to the needy, such as the homeless.

Why the man stabbed has yet to be determined. The suspect was taken into custody and a homicide commission is investigating.
