Halle (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, 22,390 households received a subsidy towards housing costs at the end of last year. That was 565 or 2.6 percent less than a year earlier, the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday in Halle. Previously, in 2020, a housing benefit reform led to a temporary sharp increase in recipient households by 24.7 percent to 22,880. Housing benefit is granted to low-income households as a subsidy towards housing costs. In this way, they should be able to bear the costs of adequate and family-friendly housing.
A subsidy for rent is possible, but also a subsidy for the costs of owner-occupied residential property. According to the statisticians, the average monthly housing allowance was 147 euros last year.
