Dessau-Roßlau (dpa/sa) - Two of the four ferries in the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom are currently not operating due to low water. The ferries to Roseninsel are affected, said a spokeswoman for the Dessau-Wörlitz Cultural Foundation on Friday. The other two ferries operated across Lake Wörlitz and still had enough water under the keel.
In the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm, in addition to Wörlitz Castle, the Luisium Castle, Mosigkau Castle and Oranienbaum Castle are now museums. Different in their architecture, the buildings and facilities also tell the story of the 142 square meter cultural landscape. The Garden Kingdom is now part of the Unesco World Heritage.
The postcard motif is Wörlitz Castle, the former summer residence of the founder of the Garden Kingdom, Prince Leopold III. Friedrich Franz of Anhalt-Dessau (1740-1817). Inspired by his travels to Italy, for example, he had the park landscape laid out with its buildings and canals. According to historians, his concern was to enable all people - regardless of their social background - to access the cultural landscape and to impart knowledge.
