Ronneburg (dpa/th) - A motorway accident with one dead and one injured occurred near Ronneburg because a van suddenly stopped in the middle lane. A car driving behind the van on the A4 on Monday collided sideways with a truck while evading, the highway police said. A second car driving behind the truck then switched to the middle lane and crashed into the stationary van. The 71-year-old driver of this car suffered such serious injuries that he died at the scene of the accident. He came from Gera.
According to the police, the accident happened between the Gera-Leumnitz and Ronneburg junctions near Korbussen in the direction of Dresden. The transporter, which was driven by a 56-year-old, had lost a lot of speed in the middle lane for reasons that have not yet been clarified - until it came to a standstill, according to the police report. Two women aged 34 and 66 were injured in the accident.
According to the police, the carriageway of the A4 to Dresden had to be completely closed for around 2.5 hours on Monday morning. An expert was called in to determine the cause of the accident, police said.
