Fraud of millions with masks ?: The court wants to question Spahn as a witness

After a failed million dollar fraud with masks, an entrepreneur claims that ex-minister of health Spahn indicated that he also expects to personally benefit financially. Now the accused has to answer for attempted fraud and defamation and Spahn must testify.

The trial against an entrepreneur who tried to scam millions with mask shops and who is said to have slandered the former Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn has begun in the district court of Osnabrück. The man, who has already been sentenced to several years in prison for non-existent wind power projects in a judgment that is not yet final, faces several more years in prison.

According to the indictment, the accused is said to have offered FFP-2 and FFP-3 protective masks to the Federal Ministry of Health in 2020 through a bona fide middleman. He is said to have offered them at short notice for a total price of over 42 million euros and asked for an advance payment of 17 million euros. In fact, he was never able to deliver masks. There was no signing of a contract, and no money flowed, which is why the charge is attempted fraud.

In the course of the previous proceedings, the accused is said to have also claimed to have spoken to the then Federal Health Minister Spahn about the intended transaction. The defendant claimed that Spahn indicated that he expected a personal financial stake in the deal. According to the public prosecutor's office, this claim is false, there should never have been a personal meeting. Spahn has been summoned as a witness for March 7th.
