Leipzig (dpa/sn) - Discover the world of six-legged friends: The "Insect Summer" hands-on campaign of the German Nature Conservation Union (Nabu) is also entering the second round in Saxony. From Friday, August 5th to August 14th, those interested can spend an hour looking for insects in gardens, parks, on balconies and meadows or in the forest, as a spokeswoman for Nabu Sachsen announced. This year, bumblebees are the focus of the campaign: The discovery question for 2022 is: "Can you spot bumblebees by their buttocks?".
In the first round of counting in June, people in Saxony observed more than 1,000 insects. According to Nabu, a total of 115 reports containing 1191 observations were received. The stone bumblebee led the evaluations in the Free State.
In the "insect summer" the participants can observe and count in two periods. The observations are to be reported using an online form or a free app. According to Nabu, the field bumblebee, the stone bumblebee and the ground bumblebee are the most common in Germany. They differ accordingly by differently colored hind parts.
