Hesse: Frankfurt also mourns the loss of author Hans Magnus Enzensberger

Frankfurt/Munich (dpa/lhe) - Frankfurt also mourns the loss of author Hans Magnus Enzensberger. Head of the culture department Ina Hartwig (Greens) said on Friday that Enzensberger embodied "the ideal type of the critical and independent intellectual" like no other. As editor of the Suhrkamp publishing house, which was still based in Frankfurt at the time, and founder and publisher of the magazine "Course Book", Enzensberger left his mark in Frankfurt.

The writer died in Munich on Thursday at the age of 93, as the Suhrkamp publishing house in Berlin announced on Friday, citing the family. "From post-war Germany to the present day, we had in him an observer who was as brilliant as he was clairvoyant, who repeatedly got involved in political and cultural debates without having anything in common," said Hartwig.
