Schwelm (dpa / lnw) - A 34-year-old is said to have poured petrol over his father in Schwelm in the Ennepe-Ruhr district and then set it on fire. The 64-year-old suffered second-degree burn injuries, police and prosecutors said on Friday. The son was arrested on Thursday morning.

According to the information, there was a "family dispute" between the 34-year-old and his parents. Then he is said to have gotten a canister of petrol, poured water over his father in the parental home and set the fuel on fire. After that he fled. The mother managed to put out the flames.

Investigators are now accusing the 34-year-old of attempted murder.
