'Both been through a lot': Drew Barrymore feels a bond with Spears

Drew Barrymore and Britney Spears recently became friends. In an interview, the US actress now explains why she contacted the singer at the time. Accordingly, the 47-year-old feels a "deep connection" with Spears.

Actress and presenter Drew Barrymore has opened up about her friendship with pop star Britney Spears. "We've both been through a lot, we have some parallels that are unique in their circumstances," the Hollywood star said on Jimmy Fallon's "Tonight Show." "We found a deep connection there."

She contacted Spears when she was trying to end her guardianship, the 47-year-old said. "Me and Britney became friends about a year and a half ago." Barrymore explained that the two women had more or less secretly exchanged views for a while, which was "very connecting and honest". They are now "sincere friends".

"The feeling of growing up, struggling, all the things that we've both experienced is something that made me feel connected to her," Barrymore said. Spears, who became a star as a child, had her father removed from court as her guardian last fall. Spears is at odds with him, but also with her mother and sister. Barrymore was also in front of the camera as a child and has spoken in previous interviews about the difficult relationship with her family.

Barrymore was also among the wedding guests of Spears and her partner Sam Asghari. Alongside her, Madonna, Selena Gomez, Donatella Versace and Paris Hilton were invited to the June ceremony. "It was intimate, it was fairytale, it was very sweet," says Barrymore.
