Hesse: At times eight times as many corona cases in homes

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - According to a health insurance company, those in need of care in homes were much more affected by corona infections than the rest of the Hessian population. As can be seen from the current care report by Barmer, in January 2021 the proportion of people in need of care with a Covid 19 diagnosis in Hessian homes was over ten percent. The value was around eight times higher than in the rest of the population, in which only 1.2 percent were infected at the same time, as Barmer reported on Wednesday in Frankfurt.

According to the data, it was precisely the high levels of care that were most affected by corona infections. In the example month of January 2021, almost six percent of people in care level five were infected with corona - three times more than in care level two, where only two percent had an infection.

The basis for the data is Barmer's insured data. The health insurance company insures around 741,000 people in Hesse. "For many, the pandemic may be over, but it's not in Hesse's nursing homes," said Martin Till, head of Barmer in Hesse.
