Finkenthal (dpa / mv) - The major fire in a grain drying plant in Finkenthal (Rostock district) is due to a technical cause. This was the result of the investigations by the fire expert employed by the public prosecutor's office at the weekend, as a police spokeswoman said on Monday in Güstrow. According to his investigations, the fire, which caused damage of 1.5 million euros on Friday, first broke out in a wooden cleaning machine for seeds and then also a silo system including the grain content.
Several fire brigades were only able to bring the fire under control on Friday evening after hours. Nobody got hurt. Police investigations into the case are ongoing, the spokeswoman said.
In a grain drying plant, the grain is dried after threshing so that it has less moisture, which is important for the quality of the grain. Finkenthal is on the federal highway 110 between Gnoien and Dargun.
