Thuringia: Tüv Thuringia: Again and again defects in technical systems

Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to TÜV Thüringen, steam and pressure systems in industry and commerce work at a high safety level despite a number of shortcomings. The defect rate in Germany was 30.7 percent, roughly the same as the previous year, the TÜV announced on Friday in Erfurt. For its annual plant safety report, the tests were evaluated on more than 28,000 steam boilers and pressure systems nationwide.

Within a year, the proportion of pressure systems with significant and dangerous defects fell from 6.5 percent to 5.7 percent. These included cracks in container walls, corrosion, weld seam defects or defective safety devices. The proportion of minor defects has risen from 24.3 to 25.0 percent. Overall, more than two thirds (69.3 percent) of the systems tested in 2021 were free of defects.

The situation with tank systems was different: the inspectors found many deficiencies in them - a third were classified as dangerous.
